Stift Herzogenburg Nordtor in Niederösterreich
Stift Herzogenburg Nordtor – North Gate – Photograph by Menega Sabidussi.
The driveway and North Gate of the beautiful baroque Stift Herzogenburg (the monastery was founded in 1112 and refurbished from 1714 onwards) in Lower Austria offering a picturesque peek view of the countryside beyond. The gate and wall are decorated with stucco cherubs. The picture was taken in the early evening light just as a summer thunderstorm was brewing.
This is an older image, I wish I could reshoot it suitable for much larger sizes but that is not possible anymore – the monastery was recently renovated and the coloring of the facade was changed from the peach and white you see here to a gray and white which, while also lovely, took away alot of the warm charm of this baroque entryway.
